A synopsis of my life and work as an artist

I am a botanist and always loved to draw and paint in my free time. I pursued various careers before learning the difficult medium of watercolour and eventually became a professional artist some 15 years ago.

Specialising in the watercolour medium, I also produce mixed media paintings, using watercolour with pastel and paint in oils from time to time. My work varies between representational and the more imaginative, depending on how I respond to the subject. I enjoy experimenting and working outside my comfort zone! My main influence is Turner, with his wonderful ability to express emotion through creating paintings with amazing atmosphere, light and colour.

I draw immense inspiration from walking and sketching in the mountains of Snowdonia and am fascinated by the history, legends and ever changing atmosphere of this region. I also respond to the intense light and sunshine of southern France, which inspires me to use a more transparent, vibrant palette of colour.

I regularly contribute to a major art publication, 'The Leisure Painter'. Two years ago I wrote a series of 12 articles (in conjunction with my husband, David) to teach watercolour and drawing skills, ranging from the basics through to more advanced material.
This November, 2012, we have demonstrated and taught a couple of workshops at the Birmingham NEC for the Leisure Painter.

I was a guest lecturer, along with David, for many years for two major cruise lines, Saga and Fred Olsen. Along with the cruising, we have personally travelled to many regions of the world, sketching and painting in such diverse locations as the Artic to the tropics in Brazil and elsewhere.

As well as selling paintings here in the UK, buyers have bought from me in several other countries. I have work in the permanent collection at University College of Wales,Bangor.

I have exhibited at the following:
- Work hung at the Royal Cambrian Academy Open
- Oriel Ynys Mon, Anglesey
- A regular exhibitor for the National Trust at Penrhyn Castle, Bangor, North Wales
- Electric Mountain, Llanberis, Snowdonia
- Theatre Clwyd, Mold, Nr Chester
- Dee Fine Arts Gallery, Heswall,The Wirral,Cheshire

A French fine art gallery has sold many pieces of my work over the years.
